Hi, I'm Jim Montgomery. I have bought and sold businesses for years, evaluating their business plans and profit potential.
A number of years ago, a good friend of mine walked by while my wife and I were having dinner. We said hello and went through the normal, how are you doing, what's going on, etc. As he was leaving he said, "This is what I am doing. Take a look and give me a call." He handed me a green brochure and left. I tucked it in my pocket, actually intending to toss it when I got home.
For some reason, I looked at it and realized it was a network marketing business. Well, I read it and took a look at the website on the label. After poking around for a while, I thought, why not? What if it works? So I signed up online. The next day my friend called me and asked me to go to a meeting with him.
I went with him to a room at a hotel and listened to the presentation. I actually liked the presentation but as I sat in the room and looked around, I thought, you know, if I had a meeting like this in my regular business, they would think I was nuts. I really could not imagine inviting the men and women with whom I normally worked to a meeting like that.
In fact, a few days later, my friend suggested that I invite several people to the meeting. I did and sure enough, they reacted just the way I thought they would.
As I watched my friend who, by the way does quite well, I realized that I could not do what he did approaching everyone within three feet. I also realized that most people I knew would not be successful doing that either.
I did get a number to agree to join the business with me. Most joined just because I asked them to do it. Almost all of them loved the product and ordered over and over. But not surprising, most really could not get into making a business out of it.
So I decided to find a different way. I spent a lot of money and tried out a large number of programs that assured me that they would help me market the business. But despite what they claimed, I kept getting left with but how am I supposed to do that? Everything just stopped short and actually delivering people that wanted to call me or getting traffic to a website, etc. I was beginning to think I was a total failure. And after a very successful business career, that was quite a realization.
I really wanted to succeed. I made a good income but I worked long hours to get that income. I also could not stop. If I stopped, so would the income. I was sentenced to a life at hard labor!
Finally, I stumbled on it. I learned some very simple ways to get people who were looking for particular things to visit my website looking for the thing they wanted. I also realized that the programs that are out there that claim to have a system were dividing all the visitors on lots of websites. Every man (woman) for themselves did not work all that well.
So I figured out how everyone could work together.
And it works.
The network marketing business model works but not the way it is normally taught. Only a very few have the patience and mindset to make it work. Even then, they cannot recreate that success in others on a regular basis.
It is a statistical fact that over 95% of network marketers never make a dime in this industry. The odds aren’t very pretty.
However, when we sit and look at what’s taught in this industry those dreaded failure numbers aren’t surprising.

From a ‘business model’ does it really make sense to make a list of your friends and family, constantly make 3 way calls to your upline, hand out piles of audios and cd’s (after you’ve paid bucket loads of cash for ‘em) and most of the other techniques that are frequently taught in this industry?

Driving all over town meeting ‘hot prospects’ that never actually sign up (but they did enjoy the free meal).
Making a list of your friends and family – the longer the list, the better – but do they actually sign up (take a peek at your organization – are they all family members)?

Hosting home parties.
Set huge goals and targets for yourself and your business.
